Attorney Steven Opheim obtained a satisfactory settlement on behalf of a client who had lent money to an individual in a business transaction that later failed.  The debtor filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy seeking a discharge of his debts.  Steven Opheim brought a lawsuit seeking to except the obligation from the debtor’s discharge for fraud.  Before the case was to be tried in the bankruptcy court, a settlement was rendered whereby a substantial portion of the debt was not be released in bankruptcy and voluntary repayments will be made by the debtor.
